Graduation Ceremony

21 GRADUATED FROM AL-AZHAR UNIVERSITY

CAIRO, 27 OCTOBER – It’s a joyous day for 21 students who have graduated from Al-Azhar university, the prestigious Islamic university. The event was held at Azhar Conference Centre, attended by the officers from Brunei’s Embassy in Cairo, families and students who are currently pursuing their studies in Egypt. The guest of honor on that day’s event was the President of Al-Azhar University, Professor Dr Sheikh Osama El-Abd.

The event started with the recitation of Al-Quran which was read by Awang Ahmad Zulwaqar bin Suhaili, followed by a speech from one of the graduates, Awang Mohammad Yaasir bin Haji Ibrahim.
In his speech, he said that Egypt has taught them patience, and without it they wouldn’t be there for the event at all. The Maahad Qiraat Syoubra graduate also highlighted that the key to their success on that day is continuous effort, strong determination and support and prayers from parents. He stressed that the event doesn’t mark the end of their journey but rather the beginning.

Brunei’s Ambassador in Egypt, His Excellency Dato’ Paduka Haji Awang Mohd Mahdi bin Pehin Orang Kaya Digadong Seri Diraja Dato’ Laila Utama Haji Awang Abdul Rahman, congratulated the graduates and expressed his happiness that they have successfully finished their degrees. He added that not everybody is as privileged to study and graduate from one of the world’s most pristine Islamic university that have produced a number of prominent Islamic scholars.

The guest of honor, the President of Al-Azhar University, in his speech reminded the students the importance of knowledge, as Allah has mentioned in the Quran that He will elevate the ranks of those who have knowledge. He also said that knowledge cannot be attained except by having takwa i.e. conscious of Allah, as what Allah has mentioned in the Quran, “Have takwa of Allah and He will teach you.”

The guest of honor also handed certificates to fellow graduates and students who have passed their previous exams with Jayyid and Jayyid Jiddan for the academic year 2012/2013. Five students graduated in Al-Quran and Qiraat, eight graduated in Syariah Islamiah and the other eight in Usuluddin. Out of the 21 graduating students, 4 have graduated with Jayyid Jiyyan.

Doa Selamat was then recited by Awang Saifullah bin Rosli.
